20 June 2025, Rome — Nepalese parliamentarian Ek Nath Dhakal delivered a compelling address at the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, held at the Italian Parliament under the theme “Strengthening Trust and Embracing Hope for Our Common Future.” The event was jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Italian Parliament, and Religions for Peace.
In his remarks, Dhakal underscored the urgent need for collaborative global efforts to address the complex challenges confronting humanity. He emphasized the critical roles that parliamentarians and faith leaders play in promoting mutual respect, upholding moral and ethical values, and fostering peaceful coexistence in an increasingly diverse world.
Representing the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) as its Secretary General, Dhakal reiterated the ISC’s commitment to democratic principles, human dignity, and religious freedom. He expressed strong support for the IPU’s interfaith initiative and called for sustained dialogue between political and religious institutions.
Dhakal, who also serves on the International Relations Committee of Nepal’s House of Representatives, held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference. He met with IPU President Tulia Ackson, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, and parliamentary leaders from Bahrain, the UAE, Chile, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini, among others.
The conference brought together members of parliament, religious leaders, representatives from the United Nations, civil society, and academia, offering a unique platform for constructive exchange across political, cultural, and religious lines. It aimed to strengthen trust among global communities and explore collaborative solutions for a more hopeful and inclusive future.
